STATEMENT
Center for Methane Emissions Solutions, a national business coalition of companies in the methane emission detection and repair industry issued the following statement in reaction to the New Mexico Environment Department releasing its proposed final ozone precursor regulations for oil production sources and natural gas production.
CMES’s Executive Director, Isaac Brown released the following statement in reaction to the announcement:
“Study after study indicates that methane mitigation is cost effective, offering oil and gas operators the opportunity to reduce pollution and benefit their bottom line. The New Mexico Environment Department’s proposed final rule sets clear standards to find and repair methane leaks, setting the stage for job creators in the methane mitigation industry to step up and help grow this industry in New Mexico. Simple measures like leak detection and repair can both address climate pollution but also limit exposure of air pollution and toxics for those living in proximity to oil and infrastructure.”
