STATEMENT

Center for Methane Emissions Solutions, a national business coalition of companies in the methane emission detection and repair industry issued the following statement in reaction to the Trump Administration’s decision to revise the methane waste prevention rule

“CMES is disappointed by BLM’s decision revise the methane waste prevention rule and opposes the proposal set forth by the Trump Administration. Strong measures to cut waste and emissions are critical for the future of natural gas and to make sure it remains competitive.

As an active participant in the 2016 rulemaking process, CMES can attest to the fact that the guidelines were promulgated with considerable input from industry and devised reasonably achievable compliance requirements on industry. The Trump Administration’s decision to overturn the rule, will lead to government waste and the loss of good-paying jobs in a growing industry by introducing a tremendous amount of uncertainty at precisely the time when employers around the country are hiring thousands of workers to handle the growing demand in states like New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wyoming.”
